Dance like nobody's watching

Another week...and another productive weekend of Nell Gwynn rehearsals.

This week - we ran the play as a whole which was then followed by our first ever dance rehearsal, lead by our show choreographer, Julianne.
We managed to learn the choreography for 2 of the songs. 2 down, 6 to go!!

The first was a company number, to the song 'Bonjour, bonne journee'. Nell begins the song alone and is later joined onstage by the rest of the company. In rehearsals prior to this, we had been swishing our skirts and swaying in time to the music, so we began by going back to basics of 'isolation'. We spent some time making sure we could all move our hips in isolation to the rest of our bodies, so we were all in sync and were doing the same thing. A lot more challenging than it sounds!!
Once the basics were down, the company routine was put together. No spoilers allowed...but we had great fun learning it as it's a very comedic number and we know the audience will love it.

Next, the choreography was put to a solo song of Nell's, 'Long Live Lady Castlemaine'. Which was also great fun!!

Needless to say, we all thoroughly enjoyed our first dance rehearsal, even those who find dance a bit challenging, and we can't wait to learn the rest of the choreography. See below for some pictures!!

Until next week, folks -
