ATS 2019

Hello everyone.

The students of ATS 2019 here!
We are relaunching our blog for yet another year. Each blog will be posted weekly, written by a different member of the cast each time, giving you a sneak peak into our rehearsal room. We will be discussing our roles, the plays, rehearsals, ATS and why we think YOU should come and see the show in July.

This year, we will be performing four short plays. The first three are from a collection called 'Women, Power and Politics Then and Now' and are 15-20 mins each. These are:

THE MILLINER AND THE WEAVER - a short play by Marie Jones. Henrietta from Belfast and Elspeth from Dublin are unlikely comrades. The Suffragette movement binds them together, but as the question of Home Rule divides Ireland, will national politics tear them apart?

THE PANEL - written by Zinnie Harris. A panel of five men interviewing women candidates. The last candidate has just left the room and the door is shut. The clock is ticking, there's a train to catch, and the panel must decide who to appoint. But what is really motivating them, and whose agenda will prevail?

YOU, ME AND WII - written by Sue Townsend, author of 'The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole'. In a council house in a small Leicestershire town, Vincent's skiing on the Wii, Sheila's feeding her great-granddaughter McKenzie and Kerry's getting on with the ironing. None of them are planning on voting in the election, but when Selina Snow rings the doorbell after an unfortunate event, perhaps she can change their minds, or they can change hers.

The last play is a slightly longer play (approx. 50 mins) and is called 'Gizmo' by Alan Ayckbourn.

GIZMO - Ben suffers from post traumatic paralysis from the shoulders down, brought on by a shooting he witnessed. Doctors have developed an advanced new device, GIZMO; a microchip implanted in Ben's brain helps him walk by mimicking the movements of the GIZMO wearer. Then Ben falls into the hands of Lando, a hit man, who thinks he knows Ben from somewhere...

Sound interesting? Then put 18th - 20th July into your diaries and get yourself down to the Questors theatre to see it.

Keep up to date on this blog, and give us a follow on social media.

Join us next week when the first cast member, Velvet Brown, will be taking over the blog.

Love,
The ATS Class of 2019
