This week's blog comes from Dominic Rogan who is in his third year of ATS.

DOMINIC:

As this is the final blog, it can only mean that another incredible year with ATS has flown by! I'm sure this blog will echo what a lot of people have already said about ATS but hopefully by me reiterating, you'll know it's all true.

This will be my third year at the school but my first where we are performing several short plays as opposed to one full production. I have been cast in Zinnie Harris', "The Panel" and Alan Ayckbourn's "Gizmo" I've personally found it really refreshing to be working on smaller pieces where you can explore multiple characters and styles of acting.

I play the character of Bill in "The Panel" and I can honestly say that working on this piece has been an absolute pleasure from the very start. It's an incredibly well written play that's fast paced, witty and a true ensemble piece where each character is just as engaging and interesting as the next. It's also been fantastic to work so closely with Lawrence, Cameron, Simon and Graeme (along with a lot of assistance from Emma!) As the other have already mentioned, "The Panel" is quite a technically challenging piece, but it has been made so much easier by being part of a team that is so willing to go the extra mile to make sure we get everything exactly right.

In "Gizmo", I play two character who are on polar ends of the spectrum in terms of status. My first character is Fritzo, who I affectionately like to think of as a wannabe gangster who never quite made the grade. He is part of a small gang who are operating outside of their territory and whilst you must admire the enthusiasm he has for his line of work; he lacks the initiative that would allow him to rise through the ranks. Sir Trevor Perkins however, is my second character within the play and he could not be more of a contrast to Fritzo. He is a chief constable and therefore responsible for keeping the community safe and secure, along with the force's officers and staff that are under his charge. After certain events that happen within the play, you might well question how competent he is at his job, but I like to think his heart is in the right place.

I've always loved the rehearsal process with ATS and this year has been no different. The environment that Amanda and the whole team have created allows us all to push ourselves to the very extent of what we think we are capable of and then Amanda is right there to coach you through to the next level. The company this year has been (as always) phenomenal. It's always a fantastic experience to be part of a theatre company but this one is particularly special. I spent some time trying to pin point exactly why this is, but to be completely honest, there isn't one main reason. Ultimately, I think there just is a sense of community to ATS that you'd struggle to find anywhere else. It's hard to explain - and I'm probably doing a terrible job of it - but I guess the only way you'll find out is by coming to see the show! And if you think this might be something you'd like to be a part of, just go for it! What have you got to lose?
